CATARACT REMOVAL

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Remember!
  • The surgical procedure is performed in local anaesthesia, which means that it can also be performed on those patients whose health prevents them from having general anaesthesia.
  • The anaesthetic given to you during the operation completely stops you feeling pain
  • A patient anaesthetized locally does not have to have an empty stomach, i.e. does not have to fast before the operation.
  • To ensure the comfort and safety to our patients, an anaesthesiologist is present throughout the operation -to measure blood pressure and monitor heartbeat and breathing.
  • For maximum safety, before coming to the clinic take all your regular medication, including cardiac drugs, hypotensive drugs and drugs influencing breathing.

Please bear these remarks in mind and take your medication on the day of the surgery -just like on any other day!

The best way to administer eyedrops

- pull out your lower eyelid and look upwards
- apply the drop, ensuring that the dispenser does not touch your eyelid or eyelash
- close your eye for about 1 minute after applying the drop
- drops can be administered lying down
- do not use drops which have been open for over a month
- do not use any other drops than those prescribed

Recommendations for patients

On the day of the surgery:

  • take your medication on the day of the surgery, just like on any other day
  • wear comfortable clothes
  • arrange for transportation to and from your surgery
  • the estimated time you will spend at the clinic is up to 4 hours

If you develop any alarming symptoms at any point after the surgery, contact the doctors from our clinic!

After treatment:

  • keep the dressing on the eye until the first check-up
  • take it easy while the eye is healing
  • avoid physical exertion and do not lift heavy objects in the first few days after the operation
  • do not rub or put pressure on the operated eye
  • remove any discharge with clean and slightly wet cotton wool
  • follow the doctor’s instructions concerning the eyedrops and if you run out of eyedrops before your next appointment, you should inform the doctor
  • wash your hands carefully before applying eyedrops
  • you can watch TV or read
  • after 24 hours you can remove the dressing, but avoid bright sunshine, or wear sunglasses
  • you can wash your hair, but make sure shampoo does not get in the eye
  • you can wear your usual glasses, but if the lens for the eye which has been operated on makes wearing the glasses uncomfortable the lens can be replaced with plain glass in the meantime – your final prescription for glasses or contact lenses will only be made when the eye has completely healed and vision has fully stabilised.
  • you will need to come for check-ups as and when recommended by your doctor

Schedule of follow-up visits:

-one day after the surgery
-3-4 days after the surgery
-one month after the surgery
